THE PAY-OFF: Not so long back, it did seem that Girls Aloud were on the point of splitting back into their constituent parts of four checkout operators and a cabaret circuit singing career; then, all of a sudden, the appeared to pull together. We wonder if the news that they're to be bunged half a million quid each (we're guessing not actually that much, really) was what persuaded them to stay together?
