Although a world of ridicule has to be reserved for the NME, who rather sniffily only gave them a 7 for being 'too trendy'. All of about a month before they put out the Cool List... idiots.
While I won't claim to know the inner workings of the NME, and while I wouldn't rush to defend their either, I think they gave it a 7 because the tunes weren't all there despite the band being 'trendy'.
Thing about Louis XIV is that I'm prepared to forgive a lot for a decent hook, and the bit in 'Finding Out...' where they suddenly come on like the DiVinyls is enough to earn them a chance.
