He'll be playing opposite Drew Barrymore, which is reason enough to not turn it down. But there is a problem: Hugh Grant isn't a pop star.
So they've decided to draft one in to show him how to do it. Or the next best thing, anyway. Martin Fry will be putting him through his paces.
It's a little like if they'd got Shirley Williams in to teach him for the role of Prime Minister.
Plug: Play Hugh Grant yourself - sing along with Martin Fry
I think you're being a little unfair there, Simon. Are you seriously suggesting that Martin Fry was never a pop star? A generation of moist knickers and at least one brilliant album stand as evidence for the defence...
ReplyDeleteI yield to no man in my admiration for Martin Fry, but he never quite made it as a pop star. Like Shirley Williams, he had the moves, and he had the chance, but one ended up sidelined in the SDP, and the other hoofing round 250-capacity venues in the north avoiding questions about "where's the gold suit, then, Marto?"
