The former Genesis star can't even hold his sticks after years of sitting in front of a drumkit.
Collins, 58, whose hits include In The Air Tonight, said: 'After playing drums for 50 years, I've had to stop.
'My vertebrae have been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in.
'It comes from years of playing. I can't even hold the sticks properly without it being painful, I even used to tape the sticks to my hands to get through.'
But just as you're starting to feel sympathy for a man at the end of his career, he has to go and spoil it all:
Collins told fans: 'Don't worry, I can still sing.'
But the drumming was the bit that people didn't mind so much, Phil. It was the singing that people thought ill-advised.
Indeed. They should have jacked it in when Gabriel left, really.
ReplyDeleteThough I do like "For Absent Friends" and "More Fool Me", the latter a wonderful piece of calm amid multiple storms, like an epilogue in the three-day week.
That is a cruel thing to say. Phil Collins is a music genius as well as a icon. He has the whole package as an artist. His voice is truly amazing. Very uplifting. It help a lot of people over the years. His music will live on forever and more.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure his music will last forever - even uranium-238 decays away eventually. But just in case, maybe we should look at a lead-lined hole somewhere just in case.
Sussudio? Really?
