An insider said: “Once you see him you’re taken back 20 years. Jeffrey’s full of beans, larger than life.
“He still teaches choreography and will even crank out an old Shalamar number.”
“He still teaches choreography and will even crank out an old Shalamar number.”
But even twenty years ago Shalamar would have had trouble getting picked out of an identity parade - and are ITV really pinning their hopes on people tuning in on the off-chance of hearing "an old Shalamar number".
Sara Nathan tries to spark some interest in him:
Jeff famously introduced Britain to body-popping — on Top Of The Pops.
Really? Or is that something he's padded his cv with?
Jeffrey Daniels, surely? Although Jeffrey Lewis on prime-time ITV would really be something.

ReplyDeleteI think they'll find it was actually Douglas Hurd on Question Time, two years earlier.
Yes, I think he did pretty much introduce body-popping to a British TV audience.
ReplyDeleteThat wasn't his finest televisual moment though. Post-Shalamar he was presenting a R&B music show (I think it was Solid Soul) and wanted to illustrate that the song he was introducing was at number 7 in the charts.
Unfortunately he'd forgotten that 5 of his fingers were busy holding the microphone. The resultant expression of hapless confusion will linger in my memory long after I've forgotten who I am, where I live, and how to get to the toilet on time
@mikey - Cheers mate, that just made my day.
ReplyDeleteI think he was the first person to bodypop in the TOTP studio. But there's some serious jerky action going on in the video for 'Xanadu' by Olivia NJ & ELO (1980).
ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to Tik & Tok, though?
