TICKETMASTER ELECTS NOT TO BEAT THEM, JOIN THEM

The main reason why ticket sellers give for bleating about their tickets being resold on Ebay is, they say, they're worried about the real fans, the ones who can't afford to pay gouged prices.

Oddly, though, Ticketmaster seems to have stopped worrying about them - and cut out the middleman. They're auctioning a number of seats for some of this season's big dates in the US, and they're electing to gouge away.

Now, this could be a positive move - if all the tickets were auctioned, prices would settle at a fair median point and everyone should be happy.

Instead, Ticketmaster are gouging the prices before even a minimum bid has been placed, and only releasing a small supply to keep prices inflated. So Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon tix costs $175 in store; to get your hands on an auctioned ticket, the opening bid has to be $500.

It turns out, then, the ticket agencies weren't worried about fans being ripped off - only that someone else was getting to do the ripping off.
