HARD FI CALLS FOR BABES, GIRLS

We're not the only ones, it seems, mysteified how James Blunt can be cluttering up the Best Pop category at the Brits when the Sugababes and Girls Aloud aren't there. Richard Archer of Hard-Fi wants answers, too:

"I'm not really a pop fan but when it's done right it's good.

"Girls Aloud and Sugababes both do it well so it's a bit of a surprise they aren't in the pop act selection when Blunt and Melua are. They should be.

"How they put the nominations together is a bit of a mystery. We're up for Best Group but not Breakthrough Act, when last year was the one in which we actually broke through."

The "Best New Band" gong has been a bit odd before. Remember when The Verve won it in 1997, a mere five years late?

Hard-Fi: mumble, mumble, mumble SHOUT THE TITLE OF THE SONG AS THE CHORUS mumble, mumble, mumble.

Pop music at its innovative best.

It's good that he said he wasn't really a fan of pop before he started, otherwise some people might have thought he was, y'know, a bit gay...
