PROVEN BY SCIENCE

Obviously, we wouldn't want to characterise all educational endeavour as essentially pointless, but hearing of the Colombia university study which has concluded that what other people listens to influences what you listen to, we can't help but ask "and what did they do in the afternoon - uncover a correlation between pretty lead singers and popularity?"

Sociologist Matthew Salganik drew this astonishing conclusion:

He added that success was not relative to the quality of the music.

"It also suggests that even if an act creates high quality music, you might not be successful," he said.

But... that would imply that, potentially, any old shit could rise to the top of the charts. Surely not.
