Good lord, I hope this is a misquote

Because if it isn't, Amy Winehouse really believes women are little more than wombs with shoes:

"I know I'm talented but I wasn't put here to sing. I was put here to be a wife and a mum and to look after my family.

"I love what I do but it's not where it begins and ends."

So it's not just her hairdo that comes from the 1950s, then?

To be fair to Winehouse she's talking about herself here, rather than women as a whole. That said, she was probably ripped to the tits when she said it.

Also it is an answer to the question:"would you shed a tear if you had to stop touring and making records tomorrow" and she says what all of us should keep on mind...that life is NOT about work and success but about human relationships...why on earth would you hope it's a misquote?

It depends on your reading of it, anonymous. It suggests that Winehouse sees herself as being a baby machine first, and anything else second - there's nothing wrong with choosing to run a home, but there's something inherently depressing about suggesting that it's a biological predetermination.

Oh simon h b...we are never gonna agree on anything are we?:) (we had different opinions on another amy winehouse post about the mtv movie awards.I guess by now you know i am (as much as i hate the word) a fan of hers, which means i've seen a lot of her interviews and interviews of people who know her talking about her so in a way i feel like i've figured her out a little bit...10 of her 15 close friends call her mom,she enjoys all the domestic jobs cleaning her house by herself ecc,Mark Ronson was saying that she is an excellent cook and that she loves to cook for all of her friends...in general she loves to take care of the people she cares about and is very maternal towards them. She is not saying it's a biological predetermination just a PERSONAL predetermination, neither that she wants to quit everything in order to do these things but that's her priority and i don't find anything depressing about that...to be honest i kinda of envy it(not the having a family thing but knowing what your priorities are, what you want and being real to herself).p.s my name is rebecca...we've known each other for a while now so i thought it was time to let you know :)

actually, i asked her the same thing in interview a while back and she gave pretty much the same answer in keeping with what rebecca and karlt said. basically that she wanted to do 'another few albums, and then i deffo want to settle down and enjoy having a family like most people'

nothing wrong with that at all

There's a difference between choosing to concentrate on your family - which is a matter of personal choice - and the suggestion that you are predetermined to become a wife and mother.

I'm not sure, Rebecca, if there's any way in which a "personal" and "biological" predetermination are different things.

Maybe we should just settle on Karl's explanation. It usually works.

Settled then...i really don't want to go into why "personal" and "biological" predetermination are two different things but to me they definatelly are...p.s:i just can't stop laughing at how we REALLY don't agree on anything:)))
