Sonic Youth promise new stuff... next year

It's good to know that there's more to come from Sonic Youth. Even if it's a bit disappointing we're going to have to wait until 2009. Thurston Moore tells NME:

‘We haven’t gotten together in about four months, we’ve been taking a nice sort of break, which is good. I’ve been actually able to escape into the basement. We’re going to Australia next week for about two weeks then we’ll come back and start writing.’

We're not sure what Thurston Moore has in his basement; perhaps wisely, NME didn't ask.

My grandfather used to talk about 'escaping' or 'retreating' to the basement, in which he had his own wood shop. I'm now imagining Moore going to town with a buzz saw in a completely non-musical sense.

I'm now picturing Thurston putting together a nice model - something along the lines of Martin Bryce's scale model of the Guesthouse Glockenspiel from Ever Decreasing Circles.

You're both wrong. He has an O gauge model railway set-up of the Ribble Valley down there. Henry Rollins help him do the little trees and things. Kim's not allowed to play with it because she's a girl.
