Global close Radio Mercury as was
As the shakeout of Global's policy of replacing local stations with centrally-networked programming continues, someone in London has spotted that if you live in Crawley you can hear their Gold service on the old Capital and Southern Sound AM frequencies, as well as the local old Mercury one.
So it's decided to dump the Crawley version.
I suspect that as few people complained when the local programming went, hardly anyone will be bothered by a transmitter being switched off.

Mercury always did have problems caused by overlapping with Capital. At one point it was the only ILR station not to take the Network Chart because it didn't want to give a free plug for Capital's much slicker and more professional output, and rather cheekily broadcast the same chart earlier in the afternoon instead, but read out by someone far less good at it than Jensen.
