Folding magazines: Three titles shutter

None music magazines, although all had connections (greater or lesser) with music - Details, FHM and Zoo have all run out of time today.

Bauer is officially only suspending FHM and Zoo, although it's pretty clear that they're not coming back in any meaningful form. FHM long ago lost its ability to write about music in an interesting way; Zoo never had it.

Meanwhile, in the US, Conde Nast has decided that maintaining Details and GQ is one aftershave-and-cufflink title too many, so it won't sweat the Details any longer. Around the turn of the century, Details would do a regular music issue, and ran a series of sampler CDs, but recently it's been focusing more firmly on the 'men who have an ironing board' market.

Bookmarks: Neil Tennant

Humanizing The Vacuum has exhumed Neil Tennant's 1992 Details piece in praise of hate:

Positivity is fundamentally middle-class. It’s about having the time, the space and the money to sort out where your head is at. Therapy is just another side of positivity. It’s a leisure activity, a luxury for people who don’t have any real cares. It’s new age selfishness, the new way of saying that charity begins at home.

And positivity makes the world stay the same. Hatred is the force that moves society along, for better or for worse. People aren’t driven by saying, “Oh wow, I’m at peace with myself.” They’re driven by their hatred of injustice, hatred of unfairness, of how power is used.

Rav bets the farm on Britney being pregnant

Rav Singh - the showbizziest of all the reporters or however he styles himself - reckons that Britney is pregnant. Curiously, he seems to offer his off-beam story last week that she was adopting Chinese twins as some sort of evidence:

Only last week I revealed she wanted to adopt Chinese twins after losing custody of sons SEAN PRESTON, two, and one-year-old JAYDEN JAMES.

Perhaps Rav thinks she's stuffed them inside, somehow.

Hilariously, Rav also claims to have been the first to announce Britney's divorce. Presumably that was at the time when the rest of the world was convinced it was a fairytale dream come true.

Rav, of course, has nothing to offer to "prove" his story; he's just working the odds that, if she is up the duff, he can add this to his list of amazing stories he got right, and if she isn't, then everyone will have forgotten. See you at the christening, Rav.

Meanwhile, Kevin Federline has been picked as the seventh most-powerful person in the world by Details magazine. We're not quite sure what his power is - perhaps he's some sort of hypnotist - but as the list was headed by Zac Effron (or Bo Duke in the 21st Century), we're imagining that 'power' was measured by showing photos of the shortlist to OK readers and measuring how heartily they applauded.
