Sony Radio Awards: Cotton on

Really, Radio Academy? With all the hours of radio programming, most of which is dedicated to music, you've decided that the gold standard of music broadcasting is Fearne Cotton? That is the pitch to which all other music broadcasters should be aiming?

In other prizes, Danny Baker won a broadcaster prize, which feels right and proper - although he's so far ahead of his peers, you do wonder if they should do a second gold betting without him. And a good night for Liverpool, with City FM and Juice FM picking up station of the year in their respective categories.

A very long way from Crash FM

Liverpudlians with long memories will recall that Juice started out life as Crash FM, a credible, well-regarded alternative music and dance station.

It's now reduced to getting people to paint their house for Justin Beiber tickets.

Radiobit: James Klass

Genuinely sorry to hear of the death of James Klass.

The 44 year-old worked on most of Merseyside's radio stations, including Radio City, Radio Merseyside, Juice and many of the pirate radio stations which came out of Toxteth.

He died of bowel cancer on July 12th; his funeral is in the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral tomorrow.
