Rock Ness: Police adopt fish-in-barrel approach

Actually, by the standard measure of 'boosting clean-up rates by nabbing kids with bags of blow', the police operation at Rock Ness has been a bit of a flop, with only eight collars. But Northern Constabulary seem happy enough:

Chief Superintendent Andy Cowie said: "We are very happy with how the event is going so far with the crowd in good humour and engaging well with our officers on the ground.

"Our intelligence led, proactive approach to drug dealing at the festival has already led to eight people being intercepted both enroute to the festival and within the event, and they have been reported to the procurator fiscal."

"Intelligence-led"? Presumably someone going "hey, I bet some people will turn up at a rock festival with a bit more than personal use levels of drucks" now constitutes a major piece of intelligence.

Festival death

Bad news from Rock Ness: the BBC is reporting that a 19 year-old has died on-site. This is the second year running that someone has died at the festival; last year a man was found dead in his car.

Brothers against Punks... sort of

Dance music suddenly looked like it was going to get a bit more interesting, with the Daily Record suggesting a spat between The Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk:

DANCE duo The Chemical Brothers launched an attack on their fellow headliners at Rockness by claiming Daft Punk are spoiled divas.

Blimey. Really?

Erm... no, not really:
Tom said: "I hear Daft Punk got a helicopter. Last night we went for a curry in Inverness.

"We were walking down the banks of Loch Ness with the sun shining. It's beautiful."

... which doesn't quite stack up the idea they were calling DP divas so much as suggesting they might have been missing out on something.

Death at the festival

The saddest news of a weekend packed with festivals was the death of a festival goer at the Rock Ness event. Police said that the 39 year-old was found in his car last night; he died shortly after being taken to hospital. It's not thought to be suspicious.
