Frank Skinner: The Brits isn't as good as it was

Frank Skinner wasn't impressed with the Brits:

"The Brits used to be this massively controversial thing with people taking trousers down and someone throwing water over John Prescott," he told That Sunday Night Show. "It has gone really downhill now."
Yes, it used to be massively controversial. When exactly did the rot set in?

Some might say 2002 was a key point in the turning of the event into a prepackaged drudgeathon. That year Dido won prizes; Sting performed and Travis was lauded. And who was presenting the show that night?

Erm... that would be the same Frank Skinner.

Absolute clones Frank Skinner show

This sounds like a really, really terrible idea: Absolute is going to take the Frank Skinner show and run it on all its themed radio stations, just with different music. MediaGuardian explains:

Skinner's Saturday morning show between 8am and 10am will be broadcast an hour later on Absolute 80s, Absolute Radio 90s, Absolute Radio 00s and Absolute Classic Rock.

The programme will be re-edited so that most of the words remain the same but the tunes will change depending on which station you listen to. So saying "I really like Frank Skinner but I just don't like the music" will no longer be an excuse for not tuning in. At least, that's what Absolute Radio bosses hope.
Isn't the main point of listening to a radio show the interplay between the presenter and the music they're playing - that's what makes a show work, isn't it? Doesn't this simply turn Skinner into a one-man Adrian Juste*, lobbing out-of-context jokes between songs he's not even listening to?

* - technically, Adrian Juste was one man.

News values with the Sunday Mirror

According to this morning's Sunday Mirror news webpage, the biggest story currently is that, erm...

... Frank Skinner told a couple of jokes about Heather Mills at the Brighton Dome.

Much of it seemed to be pretty low stuff, too, having a push at Mills' missing leg, but apparently, the audience were okay with that:

Johnathan Richard, from Worthing, who was in the audience, said: "Some people were shocked, but I didn't see anyone walk out or anyone disabled."

Ah, so it's alright to take the piss out of physical disabilities providing there isn't any inconsiderate amputee in the audience to spoil the fun.

Moby put in place by Elton

Last night's Frank Skinner Show. The now-beyond-self-parody righteous fleck that is Moby trots through his usual playground-level attack on Eminem (he must be a poofter, etc). Next guest Elton John comes on, and won't even let Frank get a word in before he's taken Moby to verbal pieces.

Elton may be an awful social climber, but anyone who's declared war on the Sun and Moby is alright by us.
