Eurovision boss seeks some love

As the contestants start to gather for the latest bout of Eurovision, contest supremo Bjorn Erichsen has called for Terry Wogan to, well, shut the fuck up:

"Terry Wogan is a problem because he makes it ridiculous. I know he is very popular and maybe that's the reason a lot of people watch."

He claimed that the UK should follow Sweden's approach and show some "love and respect" for the competition.

Yes. It's Terry Wogan who makes the show look ridiculous.

Bless! There's still part of the world that's afraid of Ozzy

Churches in New Zealand are panicking, trying to prevent the forces of darkness descending on their land. Wellington pentecostal church Lifepoint are campaigning to stop Ozzy Obsourne taking part in a rock festival next year.

We did wonder if the church was alarmed - what with Ozzy's shilling for I Can't Believe It's Not Butter - at a margarine salesman running amok in the land of Anchor, but as they're also worried about Kiss and - really - Lordi turning up, too:

"It's not appropriate from our angle of things," said pastor Karen Crawshaw.

"I don't think we can force our views on others but at the same time we think it's a very negative influence on our city.

"It'll put a damper on the things the church traditionally focuses on at the Easter season."

Perhaps they're just feeling awkward about the poor quality of line-up for the bank holiday.

Oh, look... now this joke has gone too far, too

What might have been remembered as an amusing Eurovision evening is now being dragged out too long, as Lordi announce plans to make a horror movie:

"Lordi goes to the twilight zone is what you can say," said the singer, whose real name is Tomi Putaansuu.

"All of the influences of this image comes from the horror films and the horror genre, so it is kind of natural for this band to have our own horror film," said Putaansuu.

But the reason why Lordi worked at Eurovision was the juxtaposition of cheap horror masks in a glitzy context. Putting those cheap masks in a horror movie just throws away the joke, surely? Now, a screwball romantic comedy... that, we'd pay to see.
