THE SHOW MUST GO ON. OH, HANG ON, THERE'S A SOCCER MATCH. LET'S CALL THE WHOLE THING OFF: David Bowie, in an incredible piece of selfish disregard for the people who've paid enormous sums of money to see him, has said he won't go on stage until England v France is over. To be honest, we'd tell him not to bother at all - if he thinks watching some football is more important than playing live, what does that say about how connected he is to the set he's planning to play?

To accuse Bowie of selfishness shows a basic lack of familiarity with how good he has been to his fans. I've seen him twice, once in absolutely atrocious conditions, with 100+km/h winds blowing heavy rain into his face (not only unpleasant but possibly dangerous) and once at a festival when he was sick with a sore throat but still played two hours and gave everything. The guy's truly dedicated to his fans.

Further, let's think this through. England-France kicked off at what, 7.30, UK time? (I'm not in the UK). So it was over by shortly after nine. Would Bowie even have been going onstage that early? I doubt it. Additionally, England-France was one of the most eagerly-anticipated games England have played in years, which leads me to suggest that the fans would have been just as glad to wait until after the game, as well.

Finally, this assumes that the story is even true - note that Ananova says "reportedly" and quotes the Sunday Mirror, not exactly a bastion of integrity in journalism. :-)
