IT'S THE NEXT BEST THING TO HAVING A BEATLE: Surely we're not the only people who can't help comparing The Brothers Gallagher and their hanging out with Zak Starkey, with the marriage between Judy Garland obsessive David Gest and Liza Minnelli? It all seems a little creepy, like they're going to be keeping the towels ak uses to dry himself off following his live debut with Oasis at Glastonbury to see if they can start to make Beatles in their Burnage laboratory.

Noel's pretty convinced this Glasto is going to be great for them - he describes their last appearance in the big field as "we George Bested it", by which we think he means they were shit, although it could be that he's convinced they played in a charismatic and exciting manner that stood head and shoulders above the general herd, both of the time, and since (unlikely); or perhaps that they just did a set of Wedding Present covers (oh, if only).

The album's been put back again - "one step forward, two steps back" explains Noel, which is good news, as at this rate they'll arrive at the start of their career by next Christmas and might start being any good again. Oh, and it seems Death in Vegas weren't sacked, the hook-up "just ran out of time." Seems a month wasn't enough to get so much as a single track sorted - what a prodigious work rate the Gallagher boys must have. Mind you, if they spend half the day on the phone trying to persuade Stella McCartney to have a go at the bass, it's a miracle they get any work done at all.
