THE WORLD THE RIAA IS MAKING: Seven year old Julia Illana went to North Carolina Museum of Art, to see some of the great works by the ageless artists: Picasso and Matisse. Inspired, she attempted to sketch her own versions of the paintings. That's when a guard approached her, and told her sketching a copy of a work of art was a breach of copyright. Thats right, the ceaseless skriking of the RIAA has started to make Americans - even those who should know better - are starting to believe that copyright is a solid, everlasting ban on any reproduction. The gallery has apologised for the misinformation, but maybe its time the RIAA was called upon to help put right the erroneous impression it's helped to create. Unless, of course, the big record companies would rather people didn't know that, actually, quite often it's okay to copy stuff.
