Boy George is clearly deeply concerned about what might happen to him when he faces drugs charges in the US tomorrow - he's taken the curious step of begging his family's local Catholic Church to pray for him. What makes this even more tacky is that he hijacked his own Dad's memorial service to ask for the intercession.

One churchgoer said: "It was really moving and everyone felt very sorry for him. You could tell how genuinely concerned he is.

He said he was not guilty and had been stitched up over the drugs but he is still extremely worried about the thought of going to prison for a long time.

George asked the priest to pray for him and he said all the congregation would do so. He looked very emotional. He is terrified about going to America but he wants to go to court and clear his name."

Now, we're perhaps finding our memories are going a little MikeBaldwin, but wasn't just earlier this year George was calling Madonna out on her devotion to Kabbalah, on account of that cult's pretty awful attitude towards homosexuals? So how is it that he's able to cosy up to the Catholic Church, which has a somewhat similar "well, if you're really gay providing you live in single misery we might just about not condemn you to death by stoning" line? Presumably no man remains an atheist when he's relying on a defence of having no idea how his flat came to be stuffed full of coke.
