Why did Tom Petty crash his car on the way to Adam Sandler's wedding?
Aliens. UFOs. Little green men.
They weren't actual UFOs but weather balloons, which had been erected by Sandler's wedding organisers to put off the paparazzi. They didn't really work at doing that, but did distract Petty enough to throw his driving off.
This still doesn't explain what Petty was doing heading for Sandler's wedding in the first place.
