And here's an example of how the record labels invest their money

One and a half million pounds chucked into the bucket to sign up Victoria Hart, then, most of which has presumably already been pissed away on the marketing stunt of getting her to sing at some Cannes party or other. By a really strange coincidence, though, Hart doesn't sign her contract until today and yet, erm, there's a single ready to release. At least the PR company haven't totally insulted our intelligence by pretending that George Clooney found her humming in a kitchen and asked her to sing at the party, but it's hoping that nobody thinks to closely about how an "unsigned" singer turns up in a eight hundred quid dress to sing for the Hollywoodite massive.

There's unknown, and there's unknown...Victoria sang at Cannes last year as well, and her debut album was already scheduled to be released in July of this year.

All that aside she has real talent and a great personality, I will be getting her album for sure. Lets pat her on the back for showing the british public dreams can come true, especially for nice people!

actually Victoria Hart WAS an unsigned singer who had a record ready to release because her producer (who is not part of a major corporation) raised the money to record it and her management company fronted thousands of pounds to hire a PR company - because the fact is that today's world is a media world and the only thing that gets noticed is a "George Clooney" type story... so notwithstanding the cynicism of some people, 90% of the Victoria Hart story is true - she WAS earning a pittance as a waitress, she DID get the Cannes gig through a friend and record companies who had never heard of her before that ARE chasing her to sign a contract.... the rest is just the usual media hype

I must say it’s very clever of you to have the mindset to think it all through and surely the fact that Victoria Googled her own name even now she’s rolling in dosh goes to show how normally abnormal the life of a pop star can be?!

I have known Victoria all of her life. I spoke with my cousin (a musician and recording engineer in Seattle, who had not yet heard of Victoria) yesterday and told him about the overnight success that she has become. He said that alot of work went into that "overnight success"!
Victoria, Carolyn and I could not be happier for you and your extended family. By the way it was alot more than luck, you are extremely gifted and you will go far.
