Kelly Jones flung out of Live Awards

Just how dull were the Vodafone Live Music Awards? So dull, apparently, the doorstaff had to amuse themselves by throwing Kelly Jones out.

Kelly had been stopped trying to go into the women's toilets; he didn't take kindly to being asked to leave and he wound up out on the streets, with a bloody gash on his arm. He then managed to get into a scrap with a passer-by, as well.

This has prompted the following observation on the Daily Mail comment board:

Well we all know that most pop stars are just 'closet' yobs, this proves it.

We love this for just being so Daily Maily as to almost be parodic. "We all know" followed by a half-arsed non-sequiter masquerading as a fact, ending on a claim that a single instance is, by its very nature, proof of a rule.

For younger readers, by the way, Kelly Jones was in a band called The Stereophonics a few years back.

Is he one of these 'Teddy-boys' I keep reading about?

Perhaps more worrying (and surprising that you've not picked up on it!) is Wembley Stadium getting "Best live music venue"! How does that work? It's a big space that bands can charge a lot for and stand in front of lots of people and play for their supper.

As far as stadia go it's probably better than many, but I doubt anyone who has been to more than three gigs in their life could say that a stadium was positively "good". A necessary evil that you have to put up with to see certain bands, maybe.

Jack,

Yes - the early reports of the awards didn't even bother to list most of the awards winners so I had missed that prize.

Do you think the victory for Wembley in the Vodafone awards might have something to do with the other large, by-all-accounts-well-thought-out venue that opened in London this year being sponsored by O2?

None of the "winners" even turned up to collect their award.
You could also tell from the footage, that whenever it showed a clip of someone at Vodafone's TBA gigs, that they were more than likely to win.

I'm not quite sure what the purpose of a live awards event was, as if someone could actually judge such a thing, but the programme I caught last night was truly awful.

I read a comment on some message thing somewhere the other week, which made that Daily Mail comment look clever. I can't remember where it was or what it was about (immigration or something like that) but somebody made a quite intelligent comment about how some remark was typical Daily Mail rubbish. One reader replied "What's wrong with the Daily Mail? Not enough naked girls for you to look at?" I couldn't help but think that Daily Mail readers live in a world of their own, albeit a xenophobic one where nobody questions their knee jerk responses to things.

Thrown out for trying to get into the women's toilets? How disappointing. I was hoping that Kelly Jones had been thrown out for being a talentless, tone-deaf twit.

Oh wait, they gave an award to Mika, didn't they?

Never mind.

you may say talentless, tone deaf twit, but I am sure that if you were half as talented as Kelly Jones you would find something better to do then be bitter and gealous at such a amazing front man !

but totaly agree with the Mika bit,

I wonder if the phenomenally talented front man Kelly Jones can spell "jealous" properly?
