Heads up
After all that bloody codery and winks and nods, it all boils down to "new Radiohead album in ten days":
Posting on Radiohead's official site Jonny Greenwood's message simply says:
"Hello everyone.
Well, the new album is finished, and it's coming out in 10 days;
We've called it In Rainbows.
Love from us all.
Jonny"

However, MI5 believe this might, in itself, be a code for 'rise up, rise up, and put the ruling class to the sword' and so have impounded Thom Yorke.

what do you think of the 'pay what you want for the download or 40 quid for the all-singing all-dancing collectors edition' pricing plan? The cynic in me says that will probably work out quite nicely for a band with a large, generally wealthy and obsessive fanbase..
Maybe, Paul, but have you thought of all those people with little respect and conscience that will buy it for 1 pence?
1 pence is better than nothing. After all, it all adds up.
I think this is the beginning of the end. Lots of bands have tried this but none have the sort of influence Radiohead have. Hell, all these indie kids have been copying them for the last ten years anyway, why not copy their business model? Beginning of the end.
i bought it for nothing. i dont see a problem with that. if it's any good i'll buy it in cd format or the boxset thing. if it's shit i'll just never listen to it. that's the way it should be - i'm tired for forking out my hard earned on records which arent worth the money. actually, i get sent lots of promos so thats not strictly true. but the point is that that theyre addressing the download thing, rather than either hijacking it or pretending it doesnt exist. fair play to them. especially fair play for shitting on mcgee's big 'lets push things forward' thing with the charlatans.
You pay for the result of a work, like you pay your grocery or your scholar fees. I don't understand how some people can treat artists like shit. Especially spoiled young people (and I'm young myself, mind you) who think that all is due to them...
you wouldnt pay someone who was offering you a free banana though, would you? unless he were an old man without a crust. if you ate the banana and it was the best thing you'd ever tasted, you probably would chuck him a dime for it.
i fail to see how people can try to villify others for taking something that is being legitimatly offered to them for free. how exactly is that treating an artist like shit?
It does seem to be odd, asking people to decide what they'll pay in advance - after you've heard it, you might be in a position to make a decision, but before... what can you base it on?
Funny how those who feel that it's right not to pay call themselves "Anonymous"...
They are not offering it for free. They are offering it for the price you feel that is legitimous to pay. If some people have the impression that they can pay nothing for music... well, it's the human being, I guess...
It's a bit late to impound him now they've made the album. Is there nothing stopping unsigned drivel makers from polluting the airwaves any more?
What can you base it on beforehand? How about how much you'd pay to listen to Amnesiac?
