Doherty: A leak against the smack

Victoria Newton is carrying what she claims is Pete Doherty's rehab diary this morning.

It might seem surprising that Pete would choose to have the diary published by the woman who ran video of him shooting up even while he was telling everyone how great it is when you're straight, but, of course, he hasn't:

the diary [was] leaked by a worried pal to The Sun

Oh, really?
The shocked friend said: “I want this in the public domain because I want Pete to remember how determined he was to get clean and stay clean.

“It was awful to see him back using heroin in The Sun last week.”

Yes. If only it had been The Mail, eh?

What's not explained by the writer - John Coles, as Victoria doesn't seem to do anything other than write pieces about totty calendars and pose for pictures with the likes of Boyzone these days - is how "the pal" came to be in possession of the diaries. We imagine Pete's going to be annoyed at their publication - clearly, it'll harm the serialisation rights for The Albion Diaries and Sketchbook volume 2.

The "insights" the diary contain sound less like entries written in throes of withdrawal, more like the sort of thing you'd tell a judge to convince him you're trying to get clean:
“If I had not been chemically dependent my life would have been extremely manageable.

“No jail, no rehab, normal functioning friendships and relationships and a lucrative, respectable career.

“I would probably own a house, a driving licence and a better reputation.

“If I don’t pack in drugs, particularly crack and heroin, I am likely to either die, go bankrupt, go mad or end up permanently institutionalised. I’m on a direct course for all four.”

Was all Pete yearned for was a driving licence? Really?
