Winehouse impetigo imbroglio

Amy Winehouse has managed to pick up impetigo, according to this morning's News of the World, although curiously NOTW doctor Hilary Jones has a different diagnosis:

: "I think the most likely explanation is a direct blow, either accidental or deliberate. A skin complaint wouldn't cause swelling. It could be she's walked into a door or fallen over — which is very likely with her drug habit."

We're glad Hilary isn't our GP if he believes that skin complaints don't cause swelling - perhaps he hasn't heard of, say, cellulitis. Or poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis, a complication from impetigo where you kidneys become infected.

Still, nice to see a doctor happily diagnosing someone as having fallen over while on drugs by looking at a paparazzi photo. Hippocrates must be proud.

Meanwhile, the Screws once again brings a peek into Blake's life inside:
Meanwhile Amy's husband Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, has had FIFTY stitches in his arms and legs after self-harming in his cell at Pentonville prison, North London.

A source said: "He madly misses Amy, and it frustrates him that she can't even turn up on time when she visits."

Yes, we know last week the same paper was saying that Fielder-Civil had found God and was living a quiet, blameless life inside with his lord to protect him.

Huh. Faithful readers (as opposed to people like Simon who read it to then rag on it) must have really short-term memories.

Yeah simon, stop reading to it and ragging on it.

Reading it to then rag on it, not reading to it. Oh Gibbo, you crazy dyslexic.

...and I'm sorry to make fun of dyslexics. But I'm only typing this because my dyslexic gf is reading me the riot act. :p

poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis causes kids to pee blood 2-3 weeks following a strep infection - not swelling of any kind. In terms of likelihood, given her drug habit, it is much more likely for her to have fallen than to have contracted a strep infection such as impetigo.

Peeing blood is one symptom, but it can also cause edema. It is more likely that Winehouse fell over, but that doesn't make Hilary Jones correct when he says that skin complaint wouldn't cause swelling.
