Save the cheerleader, ruin the world of pop
Is it fair to prejudge the likely quality of Hayden Panettiere's first dabbling into the art of singing for a living?
[UPDATE: The words 'for a living' have been added to clarify we're talking about releasing music in a serious, career-minded way.]
Well, maybe it isn't, but let's prejudge anyway. The single is called Wake Up Call and is "digital download only"; it comes out in August with an album to follow in "2009", which sounds like the sort of vague schedule that gives plenty of room for dropping the whole idea without anyone noticing if it all goes wrong.
As if that wasn't enough of an indication we're going to be struggling:
Aha. Something that even Halliwell and Westlife rejected as being a bit too broad. We know that there's not much for Panettiere to do in Heroes at the moment, but couldn't she take up sudoku?

Wasn't that horrible Paris Hilton single a 'reggae-flavoured pop song' too (as well as a grotty 'Tide is High' knock-off)?
Not that it matter to me, mind; It's 'Digital download only', which means I won't be able to play it on my analogue MP3 player anyway.

Is it fair to prejudge the likely quality of a music blog that hasn't heard of "research"?
(By the way, only the last one of those came along after Heroes premiered.)

Yes, but those soundtrack-filler pieces weren't actually released as singles and weren't part of a concerted career - even her people are calling this single her debut, aren't they?
"Described as a “reggae-flavoured pop song”"
But does it have a guest spot by Bubbla Ranx? Or Pliers?
simon h b - Not released as singles, I agree, and it's certainly her first album; but soundtrack filler, in my book, means a track that only appears in the movie for about three seconds (or not at all, and yet still gets on the album). At least "Try" and "I Fly" are clearly audible in Bridge to Terabithia and Ice Princess respectively. (Though since in the latter case it's over the end credits it probably got cut when BBC1 screened the movie last year.)
I'm surprised Hayden - and fellow musically-inclined cast members Greg Grunberg (drummer with the Band From TV, whose lineup includes James "Mike from Desperate Housewives" Denton and Hugh "Dr. Gregory House" Laurie), Noah Grey-Cabey (piano whiz), Kristen Bell (who, like La Panettiere, is not averse to breaking into song at every chance) and Nichelle Nichols - didn't get on the Heroes soundtrack CD...
