Jay-Z: This is not a time for soundbites, but...

Why does Jay-Z feel compelled to share his views on the Chris Brown/Rihanna story? Is it really because he's concerned? Is it because he feels the need to distance himself from men like Brown? Or is it just because he feels nothing really happens unless it comes wrapped in his perspective:

"It's not a sound bite, this is a real situation," Jay told reporters in Arizona. "If you can't have compassion for others ... just imagine it being your sister or your mom or someone like that, then think about how you should talk about that.

"I just think we all should just support her," he continued. "She's going through a tough time. You gotta realize she's a young girl, as well. She's very young."

If it was my mom or "someone like that", I guess I'd be happier if the story wasn't constantly being dragged back in to the news cycle, which, with each churn, makes a chance of a fair jury trial seem less likely. I'd hope that Jay-Z might have something else to talk about than to keep stressing how shit things were for my "someone like that".

UPDATE: At least Jay-Z's contribution is well-meaning. Surely we can all do without tiresome Project Runway winner Christian Siriano suggesting that Rihanna must have "had it coming". It's not clear why he was sticking around after winning his gameshow anyway; now, surely, it's time for him to go back to folding jumpers in Old Navy.
