Gennaro Castaldo Watch: Still with The Beatles
Although yesterday the line seemed to be that the idea of the new Beatles stuff was to bring a young audience to the Beatles, it seems that today's line is that the new Beatles stuff is designed to bring old people back to record shops:
Graying Beatles Fans Line Up as Remastered Albums Hit Stores
Sorry, did I say "new Beatles stuff"? I meant, of course, the same old stuff in a slightly different box.
Anyway, Bloomberg is excited by the whole thing, and when there's excitement, it's likely that Gennaro won't be far away:
Most of Berkshire, U.K.-based HMV Group’s roughly 250 U.K. stores will open early on Sept. 9 to accommodate expected demand, spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said in a telephone interview. Locations in London and Liverpool will open at nine minutes, nine seconds past 9 a.m. “We’re expecting to see some crowds,” Castaldo said.
A telephone interview? Gennaro's just phoning it in now?
And I don't want to sound churlish, but opening up at 9.09? In two stores? It's not exactly a midnight frenzy, is it? In fact, it seems like rather than opening the stores early, the reaction to the release of the old Beatles records seems to be keeping the shops closed for an extra thirty-nine minutes.
