Gennaro Castaldo Watch: HMV slashes prices, claims to be fine

HMV is having a massive, massive closing down sale. But it's just what people do, isn't it, Gennaro?:

HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo told Sky News the Blue Cross Sale was not unusual for this time of year.

"Normally we'd look to run a multi-buy campaign of some kind at this time of year, but we thought we'd freshen our promotional mix up a bit and try something a bit different that will hopefully stand out from all the other sale offers on the high street right now," he said.
It certainly does stand out. It's the sort of thing we haven't seen since Borders started making massive cuts.

Where do you think Gennaro will go when HMV closes down? Spokesman for the News International legal department?

Ooh, 25% off CDs? What's three quarters of £17?

I was in the Liverpool One branch of HMV last weekend and the queue to pay went round the whole store. It was madness. I reckon I'd have had to spend longer queuing than I had done browsing.

I was in there today in Manchester spending my Christmas vouchers and asked where 3 different top selling X-Box games were, only to be told they didn't have them in since before Christmas. I then asked when they would be getting them in and was told that in all likely-hood they wouldn't be. I jokingly mentioned your theory of it being a closing down sale. They looked very nervous. Ended up buying CDs from them for the first time in 5 years.. Doesn't look good does it?!
