Dominican Republic adds 'Miley Cyrus free zone' to nation's many attractions

The Dominican Republic is a compelling destination, with the cable car journey to the top of Isabel de Torres; the artistic haven of Altos de Chavón; and the gorgeous oceans. Now, there's an even better reason to head there: they've banned Miley Cyrus:

The Dominican Republic government commission that oversees public performances is banning a Sept. 13 concert by Miley Cyrus on morality grounds.

The commission said in a statement Thursday that it took the action because Cyrus often "undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law."

Part of us would be keen to see Cyrus go there, and take her chances with Dominican customs and morals, but for now, let's just focus on choosing a colour for nations on the map where you don't run the risk of twerking.

Black Eyed Peas: A plausible reason for turning to Islam

The government of Malaysia has issued a ruling barring Muslims from attending a Kuala Lumpur gig this September.

They're worried that the sponsors - Guinness - don't sit well with the rules of the religion. It's unclear if there will be any punishment for people simply pretending to be Muslim as an easy way to get out of going to the gig.

Of course, the fires in Australia are terrible beyond imagination, but doesn't banning songs with 'fire' in the title from Australian radio come across less as a well-meaning measure, and more as a trivial measure which looks more like grandstanding than sensitivity?

Black Lips banned from Tesco

Oh, Black Lips, if you really were about to provide a soundtrack for a Tescos advert but got kicked off because of references to Jesus and Mohammed, you've had a narrow escape.

Of course Tesco won't let you mention Jesus in their adverts. You'd be breaking their commandment: Thou shalt have no other god but cash...

Guyana a little more like Brighton now

The Jamaican dance hall artist Bounty Killer has been banned from Guyana. Although known for promoting the killing of gay men, he'd been doing that before he played Georgetown; it was more the gunfire which broke out during his set that made the government decide they could do without him. Movado has also been banned, presumably because they had the book out anyway.
