Dexys: You heard it here first

From the print edition of The Guardian's review of Geno Washington:

As Dexys’ Kevin Rowland told the Guardian recently, it was seeing Geno Washington perform “in 1968 in a sweaty club” that made him want to become a singer.

Luckily, in the online version, it's clearer that the paper realise that 'Rowland saw Washington in 68 at a club' isn't quite the scoop they make it sound in print:

Don't stand me down: Drunken fool at a Dexys gig

There's a lively collection of tweets from @thom_dorke who spent yesterday evening at the Brighton Dome enjoying the Dexys' gig, but not enjoying the drunk bloke behind him quite so much. You really need to read the whole thing, but here's a quick taste:

The bloke behind us was very drunk, i say about 50 years old... 2nd song in he started laughing very loudly which was odd

However he then became very loud talking through songs and then shouting unfunny stuff at Kevin rowland.

Then, in the last song of the album there is a line that says "and he said..," man behind shouted "he said fuck off Kevin"

Back on the Runners: Dexys return

I don't think anyone saw this coming: a new album from Dexy's Midnight Runners. Except they're not called Dexy's Midnight Runners any more; nor are they going to be Kevin Rowland And Dexy's Midnight Runners, as they were for a spell.

Oh, no. This is 2012, and Dexys are Dexys.

It's true, as there's been a tweet:

"Dexys new album. Can't really say why, because it's hard to put down to any one thing, but it's working - it's early days, but so far so good."

There had been a reunion tour back in 2003, but this is the first substantial new material since the 1985 split.

No word yet on if the trousers have been selected for this version of the band.

Reopening the Bureau

It's been twenty-seven years since The Bureau released a record - and, indeed, if they weren't comprised of non-Kevin Rowland bits of Dexy's Midnight Runners and the Merton Parka's Mick Talbot (or the non-Paul Weller bit of the Style Council, if you'd rather), you imagine they'd not be doing so now.

But they are, and they are: …And Another Thing comes out October 6th; there's a small tour to celebrate:

London Jazz Café (9th Oct)
Birmingham The Sound Bar (3rd Oct)
Newcastle The Cluny (8th Oct)

A further tour and album is due around 2025.
