STORM BLOWS OVER?

The merger of GWR and Capital to form the dreadfully name GCap Media might have a knock-on effect for the largely unloved The Storm rock station; it's possible the DAB and SkyDigibox network will be dumped in favour of an XFM rebranding. This is probably more alarming for XFM listeners than the small band of Storm listeners (digital radio owners in Bristol and the West Midlands, to be honest), as it gives an indication of how the bosses at GCap view XFM's development going: The Storm and XFM are felt by them to overlap, because they both play guitar-based music aimed at the under 30s. Which is true, except XFM still has a vaguely indie/alt-rock slant, whereas The Storm's mission statement is The Storm... devoted to real rock and an active lifestyle, all pictures of surfboarders and more Kerrang-esque stuff (fond of Aerosmith, apparently).
If GCap feel the two stations are similar enough to be effectively merged, the future of XFM looks bleaker than it did when Capital originally took it over.
