BEATLES THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

We were delighted in the midst of all the Lennon worship of the last week to have Radio Merseyside's alternative history - what if Lennon and not Best had been kicked out the band? written by Beatleogoist Spencer Leigh. (Thanks to Jim McCabe, without whom I would have totally missed this.)

Meanwhile, we're a little uncertain as to what Yoko Ono has actually given to Amnesty International - everything we read about the Make Some Noise makes reference to her donating the rights from Lennon's solo songbook to Amnesty, which is at the heart of the download-centred awareness-raiser - but nobody seems to know if she signed over the rights in total, or just gave Amnesty the right to use the songs. Does Amnesty benefit every time somebody, somewhere sticks Imagine on their radio show? That would actually be very generous indeed, and turn an empty gesture into something positive. But we can't help but feel that they'd make more of it if that was the case.

Apparently she's allowing other artists to cover his songs for their new download venture but not handed over the entire rights in perpetuity. So Amnesty don't benefit every time Imagine is on the radio. That would be generous.
