C86 REDUX

We've just read on Indie MP3 that the ICA is planning a bunch of events to mark twenty years since the NME's rightly legendary C86 cassette tape: evenings curated by C86 bands, fliers, fanzines, and a giant wax effigy of Bogshed being floated down the Thames. Even more strangely, there are rumours of an All Tomorrow's Parties style weekend at the seaside.

We wonder what the chances of getting Bobby Gillespie and Primal Scream along? Maybe not, but we bet Jim'd get Spirea X along as the next best thing.

For those who don't remember C86, there's a bit of a retrospective over at the Mocking Music blog's archives. They also link to mp3's of the original track listing. Here you go - I've tinyurl'd it for your convinience

I may even have my own copy of the tape still kicking around somewhere, along with the others they did round the same time.

Somewhere in the boxes waiting to be moved upstairs, I've got the vinyl album version which came later.

The NME used to do cracking paid-for compilations: Last Temptation of Elvis, Feels Like I'm Fixing To Die, Indie City...

Indeed.

Actually I think it was No Rock... that first alerted me to Mocking Music's C86 post.
