BONO CARICATURES GOD

Having already forgotten that he is a powerful, wealthy man, Bono now seems to have forgotten that he doesn't really have a hotline to God:

The U2 front man said it's unjust to keep poor people from selling their goods while singing the virtues of the free market, to hold children to ransom for the debts of their grandparents and to withhold medicines that would save lives.

"God will not accept that," he said. "Mine won't. Will yours?"

Hang about, Bono... since when did you know what God would or would not do? Is he now chatting with you in the way that he once did with Mary Whitehouse?

Excuse us, there's the phone... oh, it's God. He's ringing to ask us to give a message to Bono. He says "will you stop hanging out with the rich and the powerful and pretending you're some sort of latter-day Jesus; you're clearly to close to them to do any good, but because people see you there and don't realise you're part of the elite you make it seem like you're challenging, it makes them relax and think that things are being done. Oh, and that thing you did when you were thirteen with the girl's knickers and the cooking oil? That's still on the list, Hewson."

Reminds me of that time our lovely friend George Bush, telling us that God told him going to war with Iraq was right. Bush obviously had a more direct line to god than the Pope, who was against the war, then...

If you look in the Bible you can get a good idea of what God will or will not tolerate. I have most certainly had times when I KNEW God was telling me to do or not do something. ...a direct line, if you will. I don't see how Bono is caracaturing God. But I see how you are by putting limits on Him.

Ah, yes, the Bible. Anonymous, this post isn't about God so much as Bono's decision to appoint himself spokesperson for a God who is, apparently, happy with, for example, charging the poor high rates of interest on credit (otherwise how could Red deal with Amex) and happy with deliberately arranging your tax affairs to pay as little as you can, but then has a problem with some international trade and medicine patents.

The Bible, I think, actually sums this up pretty well: Matthew 19.24.

Bono is only saying what all good people are thinking but have no power to do anything about. The writer sounds like a teenager who doesnt know shit about the world. Oh he isnt? Well thats just sad than.
