STRANGE BEDFELLOWS

Not that they actually shared a bed, obviously. Pete Doherty found himself in Manchester ("filming an advert", apparently - have DFS finally dropped Linda Barker?) in the same hotel as Mike Tyson, the rapist who now promotes that thing where not very bright men are locked up together while they beat the crap out of each other (cagefighting, rather than privatised prisons). Pete played songs for Tyson in the hotel bar.

Reports says that Tyson "loved every minute" of the seranading; we suspect that - as with most people - the prospect of a slightly sketchy bloke playing slightly sketchy songs unprompted in a public place was a challenge of those anger management skills Tyson has spent so long working on.

Always thought Tyson wasn't allowed in the UK due to his rape conviction? I'm sure there was some big fight a while back that had to have a venue change because he couldn't get into the country.. having said that, my memory is only getting as far as describing it as "some big fight" so may not be entirely reliable..

I think there was some unsettlement that the rapist Mike Tyson was to be let into the UK; Jack Straw - who then was a weak home secretary rather than a pisspoor foreign secretary - let him in on the grounds that lots of jobs hung on him being able to come into the country to punch people.

As long as they don't make a record together... *shudder*

Actually, Mike Tyson had an after dinner speaking gig in Derby last year. The support act was Frank Bruno. No, really. Strange as it may seem, Mike Tyson was one of the the less unsavoury characters there.
