ROBBIE WILLIAMS IS NOT JESUS

In what appears to be a standard example of vicars attempting to ride a controversey horse for a spot of cheap publicity, Reverend Ian Gregory from Stoke on Trent has condemned Robbie Willaims:

“To trivialise the most important event in history is unforgivable.”

Come on, vicar - yes, the appearance of Williams at the Take That reunion will spoil things a bit, but... oh, it turns out he means the crucifixion.

The vicar seems to have interpreted Williams having pins pushed into him by Derren Brown as being some sort of parody of the crucifixion. No, we don't know how, either; tattooists complaining he was taking the piss out their dayjob, that we could understand. But unless Ian Gregory has a different version of the Bible to us, he surely realises that the occupying forces of the Roman Empire did more than just poke a couple of pins into Christ?

It could be argued that if anyone's trivialising that central feature of the Christian religion, it's the bloke who's using it in a bid to get his name in the papers, rather than someone doing a totally unrelated stunt.
