Boycott Amy Winehouse
We shouldn't buy any more Amy Winehouse records. Obviously, we never have and never would, but it's nice for a media campaign we can feel like we're joining in with. Blake Furtive Squirrel's mum has called on us, the record-buying public, to refuse to buy any more of Amy's records:
The mother of Amy Winehouse's husband Blake Civil-Fielder [sic] and her husband Giles have urged fans to stop buying her records, and the record company to cancel her contract - until she seeks help for her drug and alcohol addictions.
We're not quite sure what the signal will be that it will once again be acceptable to download Rehab from iTunes: will the Fielder-Civils issue another public proclamation, or will there be a live TV link-up showing Amy happily guzzling J2O?
Still, it's nice to know that it's being made our fault for giving Winehouse the money to drug her eyes out of her head rather than the two individuals who are cracking themselves downwards being expected to take any form of responsibility for their lives. Perhaps Winehouse should think about suing her record label for letting her make money in the first place?

Like you said Laura, brave men are dying in Iraq whilst this talentless upper class skagged up pop star is all over the papers.
Who cares about the troops when there are pictures of Winehouse moaping about London.
Lets hope she doesn't snuff it or she'll be in the papers for the next millenium.
The signal will be a giant searchlight projecting an empty glass into the nights sky...
Expecting the tabloid journo's to jump right on this though!
It's quarter to midnight and Radio 5live are still talking about Amy Winehouse...
Regardless of the tabloid sensationalism, here are two people who are clearly, for whatever reasons (be they in our minds futile or in the great music minds above our plebian ones, important in unit-shifting terms) about to destruct. If one life is genuinely no more important than another - which surely is the very basis of the idea that we all equal - we need to be mourning these two. They're not a joke. They're real people dying in front of our eyes.
Still. We haven't had a good female rock death since Karen Carpenter, so if Amy could make it drugs not anorexia, that, as I'm sure Beth Ditto will tell you, is one step forward for woamnkind...
a disection of your post lulu.
"Regardless of the tabloid sensationalism, here are two people who are clearly, for whatever reasons (be they in our minds futile or in the great music minds above our plebian ones, important in unit-shifting terms)"
Isn't/wasn't her husband a chef?
"about to destruct."
They're muslim?
"If one life is genuinely no more important than another - which surely is the very basis of the idea that we all equal - we need to be mourning these two."
Poor successful rich kids get skagged up. Boo bloody hoo.
And if your point if valid, what about fair old Peter Doherty. I'm sure you think he's a junkie scumbag, but because Winehouse has better PR its a totally different story and she's 'exhausted'.
"They're not a joke."
Well I'm laughing at their expense.
"They're real people dying in front of our eyes."
I'm guessing you're from a privillaged background. Skagheads are two a penny. Your point is redundant unless you fully realise this. Drug addiction is a common problem.
"We haven't had a good female rock death since Karen Carpenter"
She sure did Slayer a run for their money.
"so if Amy could make it drugs not anorexia"
Eh?
"I'm sure Beth Ditto will tell you, is one step forward for woamnkind..."
Read Simon's posts which pretty much tear Ditto and everything it stands for to shreds and shows what a lousy hypocrite it is.
I love her music. And if she overdoses, then she'll be more famous and make more money.
"We shouldn't buy any more Amy Winehouse records. Obviously, we never have and never would"
now, now. accomplished demolisher of music industry mediaplay ye may be; bastion of good music taste ye are not. take a look at some of the bands you have linked up the sidebar there
David, my post didn't need dissecting, but thanks anyway. Allow me to return the favour.
"Poor successful rich kids get skagged up. Boo bloody hoo."
Good attitude. Like I said, I (at least try to) believe in equality and I'm simply not going to say someone deserves a shitty death because they're rich, just as I'm not going to say a soldier deserves to be blown to bits because he joined the army.
"...what about fair old Peter Doherty. I'm sure you think he's a junkie scumbag."
I'm not really sure why you've decided you know what I think about people I've never commented on here, but that's your prerogative. For the record, in its most simplified form, I suppose I do think he's a junkie scumbag, as I do Winehouse (you appear to think I like her just because I don't want to see her die...)
"I'm guessing you're from a privillaged background.
Of every judgement you've made about me, this is the one you couldn't have got more wrong. Genuinely. I'm not about to give you even the tiniest snippet of information about my upbringing, but the idea that it was privelaged is so offensive I can't even begin to tell you. And I have NO idea on what you based that assumption - you seem to have read an awful lot into the fact that I can spell correctly.
"Drug addiction is a common problem."
It is, yes, well done. So we should laugh at people who have that problem?
And yes, you're right. Karen Carpenter wasn't exactly "rock." I just used the word in a generic sense. I was wrong to do that. I take it back and replace it with the phrase "popular culture."
Look, I'm not prepared to start having a slanging match with you, particularly not over Amy bloody Winehouse, and feel free to rip apart any views I express that you disagree with. But please don't jump to all sorts of inappropriate and frankly offensive conclusions about my life - you're not Victoria Newton. I do read Simon's posts about Beth Ditto; I also talk to him about them, as I've known him for about 15 years. Moreover, I share his opinions on Beth Ditto. My comment was sarcastic.
I never thought for a minute that you don't feel compassion for Winehouse, Laura - your original comment was intelligent and, as far as I'm concerned, bang on.
I've just never been comfortable with the idea expressed by some that just because someone is rich/famous, their problems can't be real and they don't deserve help or sympathy. I don't like Winehouse's music, I have no respect for her as a person (although I don't think she's evil, just not very interesting, if I'm honest)and I think the tabloid circus - to borrow an overused phrase - surrounding her addiction, is spiralling way out of control.
It disgusts me that this is headline news whilst soldiers die horrifically in Iraq and Afghanistan - but what I think most of us here, taking our lead from your original comment, are criticising is in fact the coverage of her problem, not her problem per se.
Then again, it's always been the case that more people watch soaps than watch Panorama.
