Madonna gets no Mercy

Madonna'a awkward habit of offering to adopt children who have families is causing a bit of trouble for her. Mercy, who she'd been lining up, turns out to have a loving uncle:

Mercy's defiant uncle John Ngalande insisted that the 20-month-old girl will live with him.

Speaking from Malawi, John told The People: "I would rather we be poor and struggling with Mercy, than for her to go and live with a big white star far away."

Of course, if Madonna really cares about the child, she has the ability to keep Mercy with her family, and remove some of the day-to-day struggle from the uncle's life. Of course, that wouldn't make for such lovely pictures for the newspapers, would it?
