Boyzone plan a "tribute" to Stephen Gately

Apart from inviting Jan Moir to perform a rap on one of the tracks, it's hard to think of a worse idea than the Boyzone Stephen Gately cash-in album.

Sorry, I tried to type 'tribute' but the spell-check keeps correcting it to 'cash-in'.

Boyzone will incorporate a number of tracks which feature Gately's voice on the album, Ronan Keating told Sky News.

Luckily, what with Derek Acorah being busy doing the Michael Jackson seance, Boyzone have got some tapes with Gately's voice on them they can use. Like The Beatles did with John Lennon. Although probably not even as good as that.

Quite a lot of me would like it if Jackson's death had been faked purely as a worldwide con to catch out Acorah. Then again all of me would like it if his audience actually used their head for once. Unfortunately they're too busy pre-ordering Gately cash-ins to notice.

In fairness, I'd hope that the money is going to a good cause and that the group's heart is in the right place. I imagine we're far too cynical about these things.

if you had bothered to do your research you would know that next year a Boyzone album was due out as well as a tour. The boyzone lads have decided to continue to go ahead with the album, their original plans!!!. So don't you dare accuse them of a 'cash-in'. A 33 year old man is dead! Their best friend!! They are dealing with it the only way they know how! So before you start with the 'cash-in' crap. Remember they are infact four grieving men. Trying to carry on! Soon as they ever carried on, i knew some low life like you would accuse them of cashing in! But what they are infact doing..is carrying on with their careers!!

Righto. They're carrying on with their careers, and not cashing in.

Except for the whole giving interviews saying that they're doing "for Stephen" bit. And recasting the album as a tribute.

It is a bit iffy, but the two choices here are to either dump the material or release it. If they genuinely think it's 'what he would've wanted' (and there's no reason to think otherwise), then they may as well release it.

If they a) give it away for free, Radiohead-style, or b) sell it, but give the proceeds to charity, I'd be hesitant to call it a cash-in. Let's wait and see.

They had to realease this album anyway because Stephen was so entusiastic about it. I guess they already have enough money for not doing a cash-in album anyway.
And remember their last album 'Back again... No matter what.', so here they go keeping their word.
