Beatlesobit: Heinz Edelmann

Heinz Edelmann, the man who created the Pepperland sequence for Yellow Submarine, has died at the age of 75.

The New York Times obituary notes that his work on the Beatles movie obscured his more interesting and definitive work, before filling his obituary with anecdotes about his work on the Beatles movie.

It does reveal that one of the influences on his work for the film was Bob Godfrey, thereby taking us from Henry's Cat to John Lennon in one leap.

Big Train trumped by real-life

The Big Train sketch which depicted Hall and Oates as a crime-fighting duo has been trumped by official product: a cartoon which depicts John Oates and, erm, his moustache as a crime-fighting duo.

You heard:

"In a cartoon setting, the mustache has its own personality," Oates says from Aspen, Colo., where he's finishing his latest solo album. "Just as I'm represented as the John Oates of today, the mustache is the John Oates of yesterday. The focus of the music will be on the back catalog, but it's an open-ended situation. There's even talk of the mustache trying to bring new bands into the picture."

Hopes a full reunion depend on John Oates' mullet completing its stint on Celebrity Rehab next year.

Queens of the Stone Age push cartoon guy

You might think the Queens of the Stone Age are cartoony enough without the need to make an animated feature, but they're pushing ahead with an extended cartoon based on their lightbulb character. The one with the imaginative name Bulby.

The most interesting aspect of all this is Liam Lynch is involved. Yes, Liam Lynch. What did that Whatever song ages and ages ago, having spent time hanging out at Liverpool's LIPA with Paul McCartney.

Let's hope that, you know, there are no other anthropomorphised lightbulbs who might be upset by the idea...
