Festival stage collapse

High winds at The Big Valley Jamboree in Alberta have brought the stage down, killing one and injuring fifteen.

One of the Billy Currington band guitarists [who was onstage at the time], Doug Collins, told the Calgary Herald: "I was playing slide guitar and I have to look constantly at my hands. All of a sudden, I saw this blast coming at me and I ran off the stage.

"One amp started falling toward me and that is when it got bizarre. That's when I ran."

Kevin Costner's vanity band, Modern West, had been scheduled to be on stage after Billy Currington.

We remember Kevin Costner - he once appeared on the cover of the Mail On Sunday's You magazine with his shirt open, rubbing his breast and looking slightly odd. Apparently, he's had a "long-running feud" with Madonna. But, you'll be pleased to hear, it's over.

They fell out when Madge poked fun at movie mogul Kev in her 1991 documentary Truth Or Dare — sticking a finger down her throat after she was filmed meeting him.

Erm... she mimed that, surely, rather than actually, literally, sticking her finger down her throat.

But now they’ve made up in style.
Kevin says: “[...] I took my daughters to see her. I didn’t call anyone for tickets, I just got the tickets and we went down. About the third song in, the lights were down and she said, ‘I want to apologise to Kevin Costner’.

“Ninety eight per cent of that audience didn’t know what that was about. But I respected it.”

98% of the audience probably didn't know what a Kevin Costner was, mate. They probably thought that Madonna was apologising to a coffee shop chain.

So, Victoria, when you say "they've now made up in style", you're stretching "now" to mean 2003?

Kevin Costner is launching a legal action against Mahee Worldwide Ventures inc. Costner claims they promised to build him a career in music:

"Defendants made numerous promises regarding their capabilities to promote Mr Costner's music and (their) willingness to pay for the right to do so. "Instead of following through on their promises, defendants continued to make false promises and ultimately disappeared ..."

Of course, it could just be that Costner's not very good at music and they were being kind by saving him from making records and a fool of himself. It'll all come out in court now, of course.
