Adam Lambert's management asks Out to not make him too gay

Adam Lambert is on the cover of the new issue of Out, one of the magazine's Out 100. There were, reveals an open letter from editor-in-chief Aaron Hicklin:

It’s only because this cover is a group shot that includes a straight woman that your team would allow you to be photographed at all -- albeit with the caveat that we must avoid making you look “too gay.” (Is that a medical term? Just curious). Luckily, you seemed unaware that a similar caution was issued to our interviewer.

Oh, yes. Shana Naomi Krochmal was approached shortly before the interview:

Despite plenty of back and forth between the magazine and the label about the cover and the photo shoot, I still wasn't prepared for what happened when I showed up at the 19 Entertainment offices for the interview. I briefly met Adam, and then the publicist and I walked out to the balcony, at which point I was cautioned against making the interview "too gay," or, "you know, gay-gay." Specifically I was discouraged from asking about the March on Washington that upcoming weekend or other political topics.

As the Out team points out, it's actually easier to put straight musicians on the cover of a gay magazine than to put a supposedly out artist on Out.

The question: how gay does Lambert's management feel is "too gay"?

The gayest albums of all time, apparently

Out Magazine have asked a bunch of gay celebrities what they think the gayest albums of all time are. Rather than getting the responses and abandoning the project as a slightly daft idea, they've only gone and tabulated the results:

It's funny, you know, because we could have sworn the whole point of The Smiths at the time was a studious asexual celibacy, but we guess Alan Bennett's 'it's like asking a man in the desert if he'd prefer Perrier or tap water' test would apply.

The 100 finds no space for Pansy Division, but does make room for Sgt Peppers - because you can't have a rock list that doesn't have The Beatles on it - it's known as the Gallagher Law.

It's nice to see Out - which generally is a pretty positive gay publication - has decided to collate a list which so firmly blows away the prejudice that gay people are show-tune loving George Michael fans.

Does Diddy know what he's saying?

We're sure P Diddy-Wah-Wah didn't quite mean to make the surprising announcement he slipped out in Hollywood:

"It's also like my coming-out party here in Hollywood," Combs told AP. "I don't have nothing to hide about that. If I'm going to come someplace, I'm going to make some noise, and you're going to know I'm here."

So, that would be Diddy being out and - with nothing to hide - proud. We feel as if we should send some sort of card.

What, no Thurman?

Out magazine have essayed a mixtape selection of fluid sexual identity songs, which isn't a bad selection. Although it finds room for Sweet Transvestite that could have been better used by Thurman, surely?
