1993 all over again: 13 - Spiritualized

13. Spiritualized - Electric Mainline EP

A whole ep? Surely that's not fair, pitching it against singles? Especially as there were no duff tracks on it; it's like letting someone with eight legs run in the 100 metres.

1993 wasn't an entirely successful year for Jason Pierce - the band had been booked onto a support slot with Depeche Mode; they lasted for six dates before audience hostility saw them sent back home.

Still, this did alright for them. The EP even made the Top 50:

Spiritualized peek out from the gloom

There are a handful of festival dates announced for Spiritualized this summer, which are promising to be a little bit special - acoustic, strings and Spacemen 3 bits and pieces. Beyond that, though, Jason Pierce is hinting that there's going to be an album "this winter". Although we wouldn't expect anyone to hold him to that.

Spritiualized and Space-y

Coming later this Spring: Spritualized doing an acoustic tour with the added promise of Spacemen Three songs worked into the mix. There's going to be strings and choirs as well. It all sounds lovely:

Leeds City Varieties (24)
Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall (25)
London Shepherd's Bush Empire (26)
Minehead Butlins All Tomorrow's Parties (28)

Bales out - briefly

Spiritualized have put work on the next album on the back burner while Kevin Bales, the drummer (who had no name at the weekend) gets over leukaemia. The band will, however, be fulfilling their live commitments, with Chris from Six By Seven filling in in the meantime.

Obviously, all the power of luck and love to Kevin.

Who knew Spiritualized had a 'slower' [NME] - but they do...
