Global close Radio Mercury as was

As the shakeout of Global's policy of replacing local stations with centrally-networked programming continues, someone in London has spotted that if you live in Crawley you can hear their Gold service on the old Capital and Southern Sound AM frequencies, as well as the local old Mercury one.

So it's decided to dump the Crawley version.

I suspect that as few people complained when the local programming went, hardly anyone will be bothered by a transmitter being switched off.

It's about Brian Jones, one of the Rolling Stones

Since there's nothing else for them to do, Sussex Police are going to reopen the investigation into the death of Brian Jones:

"It's too early to comment at this time as to what the outcome might be," the Sussex duty inspector said, reading a statement over the telephone. Police did not give further details.

Yes, there's only been forty years for this to be poked about in. Far too early for any sort of answer to start to present itself.

The duty inspector said that, in particular, the force were keen to talk to all of Mr. Jones' laughing friends to establish where they were at the bitter end.

Andy Bell's slipping a crusty cobbler to the Cheeky Girls

Andy Bell isn't just a pretty face. When he's not gyrating in a rubber-tight tshirt, he's flogging bread in Rye:

I help out at this market stall in Rye and we get the Cheeky Girls coming to buy bread. They haven't got a clue who I am, I was thinking that hopefully the penny might drop because they've seen me on TV or something. How sad I am - I thought maybe I should make them a CD of suggestions of songs that would be good for their voice. Some people do recognise me when I'm working on the stall, and they think that I'm not making music anymore and that's my new thing.

Given that David Van Day was flogging hotdogs along the coast in Brighton a couple of years back, you could start to put together a good meal from 80s pop stars if you live in Sussex. Perhaps Marilyn is offering his clotted cream up in Ditchling.

"Keep Richards" says Keef Richards

At his time of life - and with his history - it's no wonder Keith Richards is worried about his local hospital closing down.

Keef is going to join a march protesting at cost-cutting plans to reorganise Sussex hospitals, which would see St Richards possibly having its acute services cutback. As a West Wittering homeowner, this worries Keith.

Of course, Keith might have more effectively ensured the NHS provide wide ranges of services at local level by making sure he and his chums didn't organise their tax lives to minimise the level they contributed to the nation.
