SERIOUS ACTRESS BLOCKS COMEBACK
We're more than a little bemused now: didn't we get told that Bob wouldn't have the Spice Girls on the stage at Live 8 because they didn't have the profile? Now, Geldof is ringing Mel B up begging her to ok a Spice Girl set for Hyde Park.
Geldof told the Channel 4 show [Richard and Judy]: "No, it's got to be all or nothing," when co-host Richard Madeley suggested the band reform without 'Scary Spice'.
Madeley then said: "Well, I know her mum. I'll call her up for you!"
What on earth is going on here? Is Bob suddenly realising that the bill looks like it's from twenty years ago? Is he keen to have Mel B on board to boost the number of black artists taking part? Has Harvey Goldsmith decided to let political correctness go mad?
Mel B - essential for the "zig-a-zig-aaah" bit on Wannabe - is in LA working on her sitcom, which makes her reluctant to come back to England to take part. She's clearly desperate to ensure there's all three episodes in the can ready for it to reach "indefinite hiatus" status easily.

I do like the thought that the whole direction the biggest live music one-off event in 20 years will take hinges on whether Richard Madeley remembers to phone someone's mum.
A man who can forget to go to the checkout while pushing a trolley of booze, too...
