JOINED-UP THINKING
That Anastacia - she's no fan of those Pop Idol type shows:
the 31-year-old railed against talent-spotting shows and the cult of instant celebrity promoted by the likes of "Pop Idol" and spinoff "American Idol."
"There is a desperate need for a show like 'A Cut', because the shows that are out there are all pre-fabricated shows that are trying to make stars out of people that are just average, everyday people," she told Reuters in London.
"In this business, TV is being taken up not by the true artists or the actors or the musicians any more, they are just being taken up by the common man, which gives everyone that feeling that there's a chance for me yet to be a star."
Shows like 'A Cut'? Oh, yes, she's appearing as part of the celebrity panel on a show that's basically Pop Idol with a tiny twist (the bands aren't being put together onscreen, they're already together - see, that's so different.
While we're no fan of Pop Idol, we prefer it's 'come and have a go if you feel you're good enough' attitude to Anastacia's apparent belief that there is an us, the common, untalented horders, and a them, those 'artists' with a god-given talent. Heaven forbid that the common man might think that they could even have a hope of entering such a glittering Valhalla as the lower end of the Top 20 where you find the likes of Anastacia. Good god, those unwashed millions will be claiming they can write novels next - can you imagine?
