ROLLING STONES ON TOUR? WHAT A BUNCH OF SODS
Amongst the people doing well out of the Rolling Stones tour - cod liver oil distributors, chiropractors, satirists able to reuse forty-year old Keith Richards gags - a less expected bunch of winners are the people who grow turf for football stadia. Each Stones date seems to require entire football pitches to be returfed at the drop of a hat.
So as the band roll out of Detroit, in comes 22,500 square feet of new sod. (The average replacement required after a gig at the Comerica Park stadium, it seems, is just 13,500 square feet.) In Boston, they had to put back the start time of a baseball match to give the groundcrew time to get 40,000 square feet of new grass slapped out.
