MONKEY MAGIC

The bloke who draws the Gorillaz - yes, they're not real people at all, it turns out - and who created Tank Girl for much-missed pop'n'comixzine Deadline is up for a chance to win twenty-five grand as a finalist for the Design Museum's Designer of the Year award. He's up against the team who turned the Guardian into a Berliner, though they've also done the less-impressive Observer makeover (what the hell is the masthead on the Business & Media section?) and Hewlett did come up with that new hair for Noodle which has made her the sexiest cartoon since Maggie fell for Rand Race. On the other hand, £25k? You could pick up ten times that on Deal or No Deal.

The Observer was done by Mario Garcia, rather than the Guardian team. Full story here...

£25K could probably pay the wages for one year of an assistant animator. That'd get them started on the Gorillaz movie they really should get round to making.

Jamie Hewlett involved in another film? After the unalloyed joy that was the Tank Girl movie, I can't wait...
